Thoughtful Research Backed by Experience

Federal Research & Information Specialist — Washington, D.C. & Nationwide

Maman Research LLC combines years of professional research experience with a transparent, client-focused process to help organizations and individuals make informed decisions.

Thoughtful. Thorough. Responsive.

For more than a decade, I’ve worked in the federal research world, supporting congressional offices and the organizations and individuals who reach out to them with research questions of their own.

Before that, I worked at the Law Library of Congress, an international law firm in Washington, DC and a large public library in the New York City metropolitan area. I hold the standard credential in my field, though I’ve noticed more people are coming into research work from different career paths these days.

What I Actually Do All Day

A lot of my work is what’s sometimes called an ‘ask a librarian’ function. People reach out with a question — sometimes very specific, sometimes still taking shape and I help figure out whether the answer exists, where it lives, and how confident we can be in it.

Often, by the time someone reaches out, they’ve already spent hours or weeks trying to find something on their own. I don’t assume anyone is starting from zero. My job is usually to pick up where their own research left off and close the gaps they haven’t been able to close.

Why Federal Access Matters

What sets my work apart from a typical internet search is access. I work with federal libraries and institutions and use specialized commercial research databases, including S&P Global, ProQuest, Gale, and Crunchbase, to locate authoritative information that isn’t always readily available to the public.

Curiosity Is the Whole Job

There’s no such thing as a bad question here. If you bring me something I haven’t worked on before, that’s not a problem, that’s the interesting part. Curiosity is what lets me work confidently across unfamiliar topics while staying grounded in reliable, authoritative sources.

Right now, I keep my scope broad on purpose. Somewhere down the road, I may narrow in on a specific policy area. For now, I’d rather be the person who says, ‘That’s a great question, let me look into it,’ than turn someone away because a topic falls outside a narrow lane.

Human Oversight,
Not a Replacement for It

I don’t dismiss AI as a research tool. What I offer is human-in-the-middle oversight: checking sources, verifying findings, and applying judgment that AI alone can’t provide. If you’ve already used AI to get started and want someone to fact-check or verify what it found, that’s something I do.

Memberships & Publications

My work in the federal research world has included producing research reports and memos on a range of transportation, infrastructure, manufacturing, and policy topics.
